Filipino woman jailed for drug abuse

TAWAU: A 52-year-old Filipino woman was jailed a total seven months by the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday for possession and drug abuse.

Senior Court Registrar Ferhansha Farene Mohd Ferdaus meted out the sentence on Thelma Meneses Caligus to charge under Section 12 (2) of the Dangerous Drug Act for drug possession and Section 15(1)(c) of the same Act for drug abuse.

Thelma who pleaded guilty to both charges was also ordered by Ferhansha to be referred to Immigration Department for deportation as the accused did not possess any identification documents.

Prosecuting officer Chief Inspector Joan Lee told the court that the accused was detained by police on September 7 this year at about 12.10pm at Kampung Ice-Box area after she was found in possession of 0.1 gram of methamphetamine kept inside a small plastic packet which she was clutching in her hand.

The accused also failed the urine test after she tested positive for drug abuse at the police station.

At the same court, Ferhansha fined local man Jamaluddin bin Alihuddin, 30, RM1,000 in default five months’ jail and ordered him to be placed under two years’ police observation for drug possession after he pleaded guilty to the charge.

The accused was caught in possession of two plastic packets that contained 0.14 grams of methamphetamine at Sabindo area at 11.30am on Dec 2, last year.

The accused was inside a Proton car when police approached him and he was holding L.A cigarette pack in his right hand where the drug was hidden.

Meanwhile at the same court, two local men pleaded guilty to a charge of drug abuse when their case was heard.

Muhamad Syafiq bin Mohamad, 18, was fined RM1,500 in default three months’ jail and two years’ police observation.

The accused was detained on September 25 this year at about 7.50pm at Penginapan Uti Mulia. He tested positive for methamphetamine abuse.

Another accused Abdul Din bin Pidring, 18, was jailed for two months and placed under police observation for two years.

The accused was detained on September 20 this year at about 11.45am in front of Petronas Station at Mile 4, Apas.

He tested positive for methamphetamine at the police station.

In another case, Muhammad Zaidie bin Eddy Hashim, 19, was fined RM1,600 in default four months’ jail for possession of 0.1 gram of methamphetamine.

Muhammad Zaidie was detained during Ops Tapis at Kampung Pisang Hill Top on February 16 this year at about 12.20pm.

The accused was seen throwing a small plastic packet while a policeman was doing a body search on the accused.
