SEOUL: Samsung Electronics, the world’s second-largest maker of mobile phones, said Tuesday that it won a lawsuit against the sales ban of its latest tablet computer Galaxy Tab 10.1 in Australia, Xinhua News reported.

“Samsung Electronics Australia is pleased with today’s unanimous decision by the Federal Court to lift the preliminary injunction on sales of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. We believe the ruling clearly affirms that Apple’s legal claims lack merit,” Samsung said in an e-mailed statement.

Sales of Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10.1 was banned in Australia last month after Australia’s lower court granted Apple’s request for the sales ban, but the appeal court reversed the ruling, paving the way for the sales resumption.

Samsung said it would make an announcement on market availability of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 in Australia shortly.

Legal battle between Samsung and Apple has been under way in 10 countries since April when the iPhone maker sued Samsung in the United States on allegations that the South Korean company copied the designs of its iPhone and iPad.
