Teenager fined for drug abuse

TAWAU: The Magistrate’s Court here fined a local teenager after he pleaded guilty to a charge of drug abuse.

Muhamad Syafiq bin Mohamad, 18, who was brought before Senior Court Registrar Ferhansha Farene Mohd Ferdaus was fined RM1,500, in default three months’ jail.

He was also ordered to be placed under police supervision for a period of two years.

The accused was detained on September 25 this year at about 7.50pm at a lodging house and was brought to the police station where he was tested positive for methamphetamine abuse.

Meanwhile, Ferhansha Farene sentenced another accused Abdul Din bin Pidring, 18, to two months’ jail after he was found guilty of drug abuse.

Abdul Din was also ordered to be placed under police supervision for two years.

The accused was detained on September 20 this year at about 11.45am in front of the Petronas Station at Mile 4 Apas.

He was hauled to the police station where his arrest was executed after his urine sample tested positive for drug abuse.

In another case, Muhammad Zaidie bin Eddy Hashim, 19, was fined RM1,600, in default four months’ jail, for possession of 0.1gram of methamphetamine.

Muhammad Zaidie was detained during ‘Ops Tapis’ at Kampung Pisang Hill Top on February 16 this year at about 12.20pm.
