SDNU safari to Kalimantan Barat successfully held

KUCHING: Sarawak Dayak National Union (SDNU) successfully held its Third Borneo Dayak Cultural Heritage Safari (BDCHS) aimed at fostering close relationship with their Dayak counterparts in Sintang, Landak, Ngabang, Singkawang and Pontianak in Kalimantan Barat.

SDNU vice president Anthony Banyan, who is also event coordinator, said their team consisted of 24 delegates from throughout Sarawak, six of them women.

The delegates also included businessemen and civil servants including Isaka Kana, former Resident of Sarikei.

The trip started here on Nov 27 and the delegates returned on Dec 2.

Welcoming the entourage at the various places in Kalimantan Barat were members of the Dewan Adat Dayak (DAD), including DAD Landak deputy chairman Bapak Abi and DAD Sintang secretary Bapak Askiman.

According to Anthony, Kalimantan Barat treated them well.

Its governor Bapak Cornelis who is also Pontianak DAD chairman, allowed them to visit the Astana in Pontianak.

This year’s BDCHS to Kalimantan Barat is SDNU major activity in collaboration with Ministry of Social Development of Sarawak.

The BDCHS is an event within the G-to-G cooperation or SOSEK MALINDO framework.

Anthony said he had to thank Social Develoment Minister Tan Sri William Mawan Ikom, who is also Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP) president for his strong support.

He also thanked Kapit MP Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi, Kanowit MP Datuk Aaron Dagang and entrepreneur Dato Ahmad Ibrahim for their generous sponsorship.
