KUCHING: Twitter users here have every reason to rejoice as DiGi is powering Kuching’s first official Tweet-Up Kuching 2011 tomorrow (Dec 10) at the North Court of tHe Spring.

Tweet-up or more popularly typed as #Twtup is a meet-up or gathering of people who are connected through the popular social media platform, Twitter. Malaysia recently held the largest #twtup in Kuala Lumpur, which also broke the Guinness Book of World Records for the most number of check-ins at such a gathering.

“Tweet-Up Kuching (#twtupkch) aims to be the Kuching version of this record breaking event, which is organised by the Sarawak Bloggers community and also sponsored by DiGi Telecommunications and Faradale Media-M,” said its organising chairman Cyril Dason.

Cyril, who is also the founder of Sarawak Bloggers said that about 400 ‘tweeps’ are expected to attend this event with some flying in all the way from Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Sabah and Brunei.

“Sarawak Bloggers is committed to promote the positive use of social media and #twtupkch is just one of the many ways we see fit in making this happen. We have seen great enthusiasm and friendship built even before this event has started, and we hope that this positive vibe will progress to permanently bond ‘tweeps’ together, and make us even more united,” he said.

Meanwhile, DiGi regional head (Sarawak) Benny Wee said that DiGi is always looking out for collaboration opportunities with powerful online communities, online influencers, socially-wired connectors from bloggers, ‘tweeps’ to online micropreneurs.

“#twtupkch is one of the many innovative ways DiGi is happy to be involved in as it celebrates the power of the Internet, which so happens to be in line with our Internet For All campaign,” he said.

Among the activities planned are casual and competitive games, performances by ‘tweeps’ and live tweet updates. A video booth, a foursquare check-in section and a photo booth will also be set up. ‘Tweeps’ will be able to fuel their competitive spirit and showcase their gaming skills at the PS2 lounge while popular local band, Sonar Tribal, will help liven things up further with their tribal fusion music at 1pm.

#twtupkch will be open for registration from 11am onwards. Admission is free. However, those interested to participate are required to be a valid Twitter user.
