Coastal activities in Terengganu turning hazardous

KUALA TERENGGANU: All coastal and shipping activities including operations on the oil rigs in the state will be hazardous due to the sea condition, according to the Sultan Mahmud Airport Meteorological Station, here.

A spokesman of the station said north-easterly winds with speeds of up to 60 km per hour and waves as high as 5.5 metres were expected to persist until Dec 17 in Terengganu.

The situation would be aggravated by the high tide until tomorrow.

Meanwhile, a spokesman of the National Security Council, Terengganu said the second wave of the floods had started in Terengganu when 196 people from 41 families were evacuated in Besut.

The spokesman said the evacuated victims were those staying at the Pengkalan Atap Hardcore Poor Housing Project in Kuala Besut. — Bernama
