KUANTAN: The Pahang state assembly sitting here yesterday extended thanks to Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin at the end of His Majesty’s five-year term as the 13th Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob when tabling the motion to thank Tuanku Mizan, said the outgoing King had shown a high level of maturity during his reign despite the fact that he was the third youngest Malay ruler and was only 44 when he was installed as the 13th Yang di-Pertuan Agong five years ago.

“Tuanku Mizan’s entire reign also proved that he is a caring King who always places the people’s interest at heart and that the people across the country have really enjoyed his fair and just reign,” he said.

Adnan said Tuanku Mizan’s maturity was prominently visible as he was appointed as Deputy Yang di-Pertuan Agong twice, namely in April 1999 during the reign of the late Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah as the 11th Yang di-Pertuan Agong and in December 2001 when Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Syed Putra ascended the throne as the 12th Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

The state assembly sitting also extended its congratulations to the Sultan of Kedah, Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah, on his appointment as the 14th Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

“The appointment is the second for Tuanku Abdul Halim. The first time was when he was installed as the 5th Yang di-Pertuan Agong in 1970.

“May Allah bless his reign as the 14th Yang di-Pertuan Agong,” Adnan said. — Bernama
