MIRI: Piasau assemblyman Alan Ling Sie Kiong welcomes the RM500 one-off cash aid to eligible families, saying it is a sign that the government has taken note of the people’s welfare.

“This one-time cash aid is a good sign that the government is taking note of the people’s needs, especially with increasing costs of living,” he said when visiting the Inland Revenue Board (LHDNM) office at Wisma Hasil in Taman MDL here recently.

Ling noted the long queue spilling into the road, which was also congested with vehicles, and took the opportunity to reassure members of the public that the forms were available for free not only at the LHDNM building but also at the High Court House and even at his Piasau service centre at the Waterfront Commercial Centre.

“The Barisan Nasional government is responding positively to the healthy competition posed by Pakatan Rakyat now pushing the two-party system for the first time in the country,” said Ling, who welcomed the one-off cash aid as a small relief for average families who have until January 10 next year to send in their application forms.

He hoped that the government did not do it for the sake of elections only, but also as a programme to give back to the people on an annual or regular basis.

“However, the government should give the money out of profits or savings made, which is possible if wastage due to bad projects and corruption are cut,” he added.
