KUANTAN: A 70-metre landslide occurred around 10pm Tuesday night at a route leading to a Petronas petrol station along Jalan Kuantan-Sungai Lembing in Seksyen 6 here.

No untoward incident was reported following swift action by security personnel to close the stretch to traffic.

Semambu state assemblyman Datuk Phang Tsu Ming who visited the affected area said the incident was due to underground water flow which had weakened the soil structure.

A study would be done by consultants to be engaged by the petrol concessionaire as the route was under its maintenance, he said.

He said signboards would be put up to caution users and prevent accidents.

Meanwhile, trader Mohd Che Wan said he heard a thud not far from his eatery and thought there had been an accident.

“But I did not see any vehicle and then I saw an electricity pole toppled to the ground,” he said.

Meanwhile, the floods in the state eased further this evening with only seven people remaining in a flood relief centre here. — Bernama
