FATAL CRASH: The wrecked Honda City at the scene of the accident.

KUCHING: A doctor was killed when his car struck a large water pipe near the Batu Kawah new township early yesterday morning when he was on his way back from a friend’s wedding dinner.

Dr Ho Lee Kwong, 37, was heading back to his house at Taman Supreme after earlier dropping a friend off at Jalan Stephen Yong when the accident occurred along an accident-prone stretch of the road leading to the township’s commercial area at about 2am.

His Honda City was believed to have struck a kerb before plunging into a monsoon drain, shattering its windscreen, and smashing the driver into a large water pipe.

According to a source, the doctor was a Taiwan graduate and had worked there for several years prior to relocating here about six months ago.

His body was pinned inside the wrecked car and had to be extricated by firemen.

Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.

Traffic police officers were on hand to investigate the crash and later transported the body to the mortuary.

The deceased left behind a wife and an eight-year-old child.
