KUCHING: Global value hotel brand Tune Hotels has launched its maiden property in Thailand with the official opening of Tune Hotel Hat Yai by the Governor of Songkhla, Grisada Boonrach.

The hotel, located at Niphat Uthit 2 Road, has 148 rooms comprising 93 double rooms, 54 twin-sharing rooms and a wheelchair-friendly room. The hotel is situated right in the heart of Hat Yai and within the city’s main shopping and entertainment areas, while the railway station is just a five-minute’s walk away.

At the opening ceremony, Boonrach was joined by Mayor of Hat Yai Municipality, Dr Prai Pattano, Hat Yai Hotels Association’s president Somchart Pimthanapoonporn, Hat Yai District Chief Seri Panitkul and Red Planet Hotels’ chief executive Tim Hansing.

Red Planet is Tune Hotels’ strategic partner for the development of its hotels in Thailand, the Philippines and Indonesia.

“This is such a momentous occasion not only for Songkhla Province, but also Thailand as a whole as we welcome the arrival of the first Tune Hotel right here in Hat Yai,” said Boonrach. He added that the establishment of Tune Hotel Hat Yai would further promote the tourism sector in the Songkhla province as well as the rest of southern Thailand.

“Tune Hotel will give tourists and visitors to Hat Yai a world- class accommodation option at affordable rates. It augurs well with the government’s efforts to bring back tourists to our country. On the national level, it serves to promote stronger ties between old friends Thailand and Malaysia.”

Hansing remarked, “The opening of Tune Hotel Hat Yai is only the beginning. Through our collaboration with Tune Hotels, we have about 15 properties scheduled for opening next year, spread over Thailand, the Philippines and Indonesia. We are particularly pleased to have managed to complete the property in spite of the severe flooding problems in Thailand.”

Tune Hotels’ group chief executive officer Mark Lankester said when the group announced the opening of Tune Hotel Hat Yai last month, Thailand was facing such a difficult situation with massive flooding on most parts of the country.

“With the opening of Tune Hotel Hat Yai, we are pleased to be part of the nation’s recovery process and this is proof of our determination to be an active player and contributor to the Thai economy, of which tourism has great importance.”

Lankester also was enthusiastic that response from guests had been overwhelming with Tune Hotels’ promo rooms during the pre-opening sale snapped up almost immediately.

Apart from Hat Yai, Tune Hotels rollout plan in Thailand for next year would include Pattaya, followed by Asoke in Bangkok and Patong in Phuket later in the year.

With the latest opening of Hat Yai, Tune Hotels now operates 14 hotels globally – 10 in Malaysia, two in Bali, Indonesia, one in London, UK; and one in Thailand.

Noting that about 30 new Tune Hotels would be opening across the globe in the next 12 months, Lankester encouraged guests to stay connected with Tune Hotels via Facebook and Twitter to keep tab of the latest openings and promotions.
