SAPP slams Akjan over RCI issue

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) leaders have taken Pertubuhan Kebajikan Dakwah (PEKIDA) Sabah chairman Datu Mohd Akjan Datu Ali Muhammad to task for objecting the calls made by various quarters in the state on the federal government to set up a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) into the illegal immigrant issue and Project IC in Sabah.

SAPP vice-president Japiril Suhaimin pointed out that the call for the setting up of the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) was made to the federal authorities to clear doubts in the minds of Sabahans as to the unusual population increase in the number of Malaysians in Sabah.

Japiril who was commenting on Akjan’s statement said that when SAPP voiced out concern and requested the federal authorities to set up the RCI, it was to fully investigate the problem in toto.

“There was no discrimination of sorts. The truth need to be exposed. If there was a so-called Identity Card (IC) syndicate, then those involved must be brought to trial and punished,” he stressed.

According to Japiril, Akjan’s claim that ‘the people whose citizenship were being questioned were IMM13 holders’, does not hold water as this was already explained by Datuk Nazri Abdul Aziz, the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, who had confirmed that none of the 81,000 IMM13 holders had been issued with Malaysian citizenship.

“This was stated in his answer to Datuk Eric Majimbun’s Parliament supplementary question back on October 5, 2011,” he said.

Japiril also said SAPP Youth Wing had worked hard to get the 100,000 signatures in a campaign to support the setting up of the RCI and would do more, if necessary, until the federal authorities acquiesce to the demands of the rakyat.

“What we want to know is what Sabah Umno leaders feel about this stand by Pekida Sabah? Why has there been a continued silence from these leaders on this issue? Or do they agree with Akjan?

“Is it mere coincidence that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak was the guest of honour for the Pekida national function at Shah Alam Polytechnic on December 5 2011?” he said and pointed out that the statement: “Najib to aid Pekida in return for election report”, later on became the headline for certain portal news.

“If these Sabah Umno leaders are muted due to party protocol, then can the same be assumed of the other Barisan Nasional leaders in Sabah? What are Tan Sri Pairin’s feelings on this, as he is after all the head of Sabah’s committee on the PTI issue,” he questioned.

Japiril also wanted to know what the outcome of the police investigation of the February 2011 Sultan of Sulu coronation in Likas was .

“Has the police deliberated and fully investigated the matter? One would have thought that a fully detailed explanation must be given in response to the police reports made by the various quarters including our SAPP Youth,” he said.

Meanwhile, SAPP Council member Peter Marajin was of the opinion that a political party was behind Akjan in his move to object the establishment of the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI).

No wonder despite the calls by all parties and all concerned Sabahans to form the RCI, this particular political party and its leaders from top to bottom, from national to branch level in Sabah are completely mute and unresponsive.

“Now they are making use of Akjan, who was an illegal himself and greatly benefiting from this hidden agenda to stop the RCI,” he claimed.

“What would the so-called Sabah leaders from PBS, UPKO, PBRS and LDP have to say on this? Are they still prepared to play their ‘sandiwara’ just to perpetuate their positions in the government at the expense of Sabahans, our children and future generation?” he asked.

As far as Akjan was concerned, Peter said he should first answer why he was arrested under the ISA in 1995 for his alleged involvement in manufacturing fake ICs for foreigners before making any further denial.
