KUCHING: A baby girl was found alive after she was dumped inside a bin at a petrol station toilet at Jalan Astana yesterday.

PROBE UNDERWAY: Policemen and forensics officers inspecting the toilet where the infant was found.

The discovery was made around 5.30pm by a 24-year-old woman, who gave her name as Sharifah, when she stopped to answer the call of nature and heard the faint crying of an infant coming from inside the trash receptacle.

She notified the petrol station staff of the find, prompting them to collect the baby from the bin before calling the police.

According to one staff, the infant had no umbilical chord and appeared to have been washed prior to being dumped naked.

A police team from district headquarters, including a forensics unit, was dispatched to the scene to investigate, and they sent the baby to Sarawak General Hospital for a medical checkup to determine her health status and age.

It was also learned that police will be checking the station’s CCTV recording to find out more.

District police chief ACP Mun Kock Keong confirmed the incident when contacted yesterday.
