KUALA LUMPUR: Cuepacs secretary-general, Loke Yim Pheng, yesterday advised civil servants to ensure that the option forms for the New Remuneration Scheme in the Public Service (SPBA) are accurately filled with appropriate salary schedule before signing them.

Loke, who is also the secretary general of the National Union of Teaching Profession (NUTP), the country’s largest teachers union and a Cuepacs affiliate, told Bernama that complaints have been received that some teachers were “forced” to sign blank option forms.

“We are very concerned about this and call on the heads of department not to force their staff to sign blank forms just because the dateline is getting closer,” she said.

The 1.4 million civil servants have been given option to opt for the SBPA and have until Dec 30 to submit their forms. If they fail to do so by the dateline they would remain on their present scheme.

Loke said Cuepacs was also concerned with the plight of 200,000 civil servants on Grade 17 of the N, W and F categories, saying the were given “a poor deal.”

She called on the Public Services Department (PSD) to provide proper clarifications on the new scheme as many of the civil servants were still confused and did not know how much they would benefit if they opt in. — Bernama
