Boy goes berserk, stabs himself to avoid arrest

SITUATION UNDER CONTROL: A policeman seizes the axe and knife.

SIBU: A berserk boy stabbed himself in the stomach after injuring a policeman during a struggle to evade arrest. The incident at 1.45pm on Friday occurred at a house in Apollo Road where the 18-year-old boy was reported to have run amok.

Acting on a tip off, five mobile patrol policemen went to the house to check and noticed the boy swinging an axe and knife in his hands in the house.

A policeman ordered him to open the door but the order was ignored.

Suddenly, the boy dashed out, charging a policeman with the weapons he was holding.

The policemen grabbed the axe from him, attempting to apprehend him, but one of the policemen was injured on the hand during the struggle.

The boy escaped with the knife, running inside the house and hiding in his bedroom.

Policemen stormed into the room but the boy turned aggressive, stabbing himself in the stomach with the knife.

Fortunately, the boy only sustained slight injury as police subdued him in time.

He was detained and taken to the psychiatric ward.

Police also seized drug paraphernalia in his room.
