2,000 Catholics attend Christmas mass in Kapit

KAPIT: Christians in various churches in Kapit joined the world in celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ on Christmas eve.

THE FAITHFUL: Catholics fill the pews for the Christmas eve mass.

RESOUNDING: Catholic Chinese Youth Pastoral Group sang the welcoming hymn during the Christmas eve mass.

CREATIVE: The Children’s Bicycle Decoration Competition organised by Methodist Hock Ing Church at the Town Square on Christmas eve.

Some 2,000 Catholics gathered at Holy Mary Immaculate Conception, a Catholic church, for mass which began at 7.30pm on Saturday.

They came from around the town and nearby longhouses.

The mass was chaired by Reverend Father David Ho, who was assisted by Brother Roy.

Father Ho said: “Today, the world’s Christian community celebrate Christmas. In Kuching, St Joseph Church is holding a midnight mass that is telecasted live. For the love of mankind, Jesus sacrificed his life. Let us on this occasion renew our faith in Him.”

Various activities carried out during the three-hour mass included a sketch, play and singing by the choir.

The congregation of Methodist Hock Ing Church gathered at the Town Square for Christmas caroling, and organised a ‘Children Bicycle Decoration Competition’.

SIB Church organised this year’s combined Christmas celebration themed ‘Make Christ A Room In Our Home’.

Other activities held were a Spirit Concert at Catholic Church, mass blood donation at Kapit Hospital, visit to Hospital and a children’s camp.
