TAWAU: Sabah DAP chairman Jimmy Wong denied that he did not show up at the Sabah Air terminal at the Kota Kinabalu International Airport for the helicopter ride on Dec 24.

Wong said he was at the terminal for about two hours but did not get a ride on one of the two helicopters.

It had been reported that he did not turn up and had instead sent DAP secretary Dr Edwin Bosi and two others from the party.

Wong said photos of him at the Sabah Air terminal were, however, published in the Chinese dailies.

He said he had refused to ride on the helicopter solely because the Sabah Air chairman Datuk Yusof Kasim had refused to accompany him on the flight despite him (Yusof) having earlier agreed to accompany him (Wong) in the EC145 helicopter.

He, therefore, sent DAP deputy chairman Fred Fung, Bosi and youth chief Junz Wong to fly one of the choppers on his behalf.

Wong expressed unhappiness over the report which erroneously implied that he did not turn up after issuing a challenge to Sabah Air over the two new helicopters.

He said he had sought legal advise as the report had tarnished his image and reputation as a businessman and as Sabah DAP chairman.
