BEAUFORT: A tragic incident befell a local woman and her son who were returning from attending a wedding in Beaufort after her Perodua Viva she was driving was knocked by a four-wheel-drive which went out of control while overtaking.

The victim, in her 40s, is reported to be in critical condition while her child sustained minor injuries in the accident which occurred near a bus stop along the Membakut-Beaufort highway at about 2pm yesterday.

The 30-year-old driver of the Mazda four-wheel-drive lost control of his vehicle and ended up crashing into the nearby bus stop.

Beaufort traffic police chief, Sallehuddin Sulaiman when contacted yesterday said information on the accident was received at about 3pm.

He said initial investigation revealed that the victim’s car was hit on its side when the Mazda driver attempted to avert a collision with an on coming vehicle from the opposite direction while overtaking the Viva.

“The Viva driver is in critical condition and was sent to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for immediate treatment while her son and the Mazda driver sustained minor injuries,” according to Sallehuddin.
