MIRI: Miri City Council (MCC) is going to implement parking coupon system at four new zones effective Jan 1, next year.
The new zones are Merpati Road, Sylvia Road, Bendahara Road and Melayu Road which offer in total 958 parking lots.
Mayor Lawrence Lai said the most parking lot number is at the Centrepoint Commercial Centre at Melayu Road with 599 lots, followed by Bendahara Road (271), Merpati Road (62) and Sylvia Road (26).
“It is hoped that the implementation of parking coupon system at these new areas, will help address the lack of parking lots at the city area. At the same time, it will help to solve illegal parking problem, thus ensuring smooth traffic flow,” he told the media during a site visit to Centrepoint Commercial Centre yesterday.
In addition, the council has set aside 49 parking lots for the temporary tamu at Centrepoint.
In view of that, he urged motorists to be on the alert tothe implementation.
