KUCHING: Bayer Co Malaysia is inviting bright young individuals who have a passion for the environment to take up the challenge to become a Bayer Young Environmental Envoy (BYEE).

Tertiary students from all over the country between the ages of 18 and 24 have until Feb 29 to write in their proposal for an effective and achievable environmental project.

“Deserving students will be given the opportunity to join an environmental camp in Malaysia and two candidates with the best implemented environmental project will be chosen to participate in a week-long BYEE field trip to Germany in November,” said Bayer corporate communication manager Karen Koh.

According to Koh, the BYEE programme, now in its seventh year in Malaysia, is one of the flagship projects of Bayer in partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) which aim at developing young environmental leaders and boosting environmental awareness among the youth.

“The highlight of this programme is a week-long all-expenses paid study trip on the environment where some 50 young environmentalists from 18 countries gain first-hand experience of the principles and applications of modern environmental protection,” Koh explained.

She said the field trip will include visits to various facilities in Leverkusen and students will have the unique opportunity to talk to experts of sustainable development.

“When the envoys return home, they are able to raise awareness on environmental protection in their societies by passing on impressions, experience and insights they have gained during the study trip,” added Karen.

Students who are interested in taking part can submit their entries now to Bayer Co. (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, T1-14 Jaya 33, No. 3 Jalan Semangat, Seksyen 13, 46200 Petaling Jaya, Selangor.
