MIRI: Non-governmental organisations (NGO’s) and associations in the state should conduct more social activities in line with the 1Malaysia Concept.

Assistant Minister of Communications Datuk Lee Kim Shin said such efforts were vital to enhance the prevailing racial unity and harmony.

“Apart from conducting activities for members only, it would be meaningful if NGOs extend their activities to non-members under the 1Malaysia concept. This would serve as a platform to promote better social interaction among the various races,” he said at the Miri Che Sing Khor Moral Uplifting Society’s 29th anniversary dinner in Miri Civic Centre last Sunday.

Lee stressed that a more united Sarawak would enable the state to continue to progress and prosper further.

“Let’s us stay united and never let outsiders to jeopardise our strong unity and peaceful living.”

On the Miri Che Sing Khor Moral Uplifting Society, he noted that the society had successfully translated the 1Malaysia Concept into concrete actions through its various welfare programmes.

The society, he added, had set a good example in enhancing the caring spirit to help those in need.

“It is the responsibility of the government to take care of the welfare of the less fortunate.

“However, there is a need for the people to share the responsibility as well because assistance from the government alone is not enough.”
