BINTULU: Bintulu Visual-Arts Community (BVC), a local photography association, held its first annual general meeting (AGM) recently, where it also appointed members of its supreme council for 2012-2014.
The association was established on December 28, 2010.
Its new president is Juna Medan while his deputy is Wan Mohd Fairuz Wan Maulana. Other new faces are Nor Amilia Affiza Nasir as secretary and Masdilah Jamni as treasurer.
The AGM’s organising chairman and former president Mohammad Rizal Julaihi wished the new line-up of office bearers, comprising talented young people, all the best and hoped they would carry out their tasks successfully.
He also thanked all members, especially the 2010-2011 exco members, for their strong support in enabling BVC to contribute towards the development of photography in Bintulu.
“Just remember, BVC is still a new association and needs guidance and support from all parties, especially the Bintulu Youth and Sports Office and local visual arts enthusiasts in Bintulu.
“Therefore, I hope the new exco will drive BVC forward because most of them are young and high-spirited youth and experienced in the field of visual arts,” he said.
Rizal also reminded members not to make BVC a place to achieve personal gains but to use it to promote Bintulu in terms of visual arts.
“It is also my dream that one day BVC will host a number of visual arts seminars and workshops and raise the standard of visual arts enthusiasts in Bintulu to be respected in the region,” he added when contacted yesterday.
Meanwhile, new president Juna looked forward to the cooperation of all members to further develop and promote the association while thanking them for their trust in him.
Bintulu Youth and Sports officer Nur Nafhatun Ahmad Masut, who is BVC advisor, also attended the meeting.
Bintulu Kite Flyer chairman Azman Drahman and his colleagues were also present to lend their support.
Visual arts generally includes stationary image, mobile image (video) and 3D Art (animation and 3D objects), and the combination of the three elements can produce very creative works if the practitioners are knowledgeable in the art.
Among the objectives of BVC are to bring together fans and visual arts enthusiasts under one roof to showcase their talents and share their works and knowledge of visual arts.
BVC’s vision is to make Bintulu a premier hub for visual arts in Malaysia. It also aimed at making Bintulu a centre of excellence to produce world class visual arts enthusiasts.
Its mission is to provide formal and informal exposure through training and courses by professionals and experienced visual artistes.
BVC will also organise various activities related to visual arts at local, national and international levels.
Most importantly BVC will assist local government agencies in promoting Bintulu as a ‘Friendly Industrial City by 2020’.
BVC operates from Bintulu Youth and Sports Office, Tingkat 3, Wisma Persekutuan Fasa 2, Jalan Tun Razak, Bintulu.
