KUCHING: University of Management and Technology (Umtech) is a comprehensive dual-mode university that runs conventional and distance learning education programmes concurrently.

Formerly known as Unitar Pintar Campus, the university teaches and researches as a dual mode university which doubles options for learning – students can study through full-time on-campus or through distance learning. The programme structure is designed to run in full-time, part-time and distance learning modes to cater to secondary school leavers and working adults.

In its effort to produce competitive and capable graduates, Umtech constantly upgrades its syllabuses to keep up with current and forecasted industry standards and implements innovative teaching methods to provide the best education possible for students.

The university operates from its administrative headquarters and main campus at the Leisure Commerce Square, Petaling Jaya, supported by strong networks of regional centres in Kuching, Kota Kinabalu, Melaka, Ipoh, Pulau Pinang, Alor Star, Kota Bharu and Johor Bahru.

Umtech has certainly brought into existence a new approach to tertiary education that gives rise to greater flexibility in learning, as well as providing the necessary knowledge and skills for the workforce to compete in an ever-challenging environment.

As for the Sarawak region, Umtech programmes are managed by Sidma College Sarawak, also known as Umtech Sarawak Regional Centre. Located at Jalan Hj Taha here, Sidma College Sarawak offers Foundation, Diploma, Bachelor and Master’s programmes in diverse disciplines including business administration, management, education, early childhood education, tourism and hospitality. All programmes are approved by the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE). English is used as a medium of instruction to cater to the needs of Malaysia as a multi-racial country.

The Faculty of Education and Social Sciences offers scholars an in-depth knowledge in their areas of specialisations that enables graduates to keep abreast with new discoveries, inventions, innovations and insights. The faculty programmes prepare scholars for mindful and thoughtful self-leadership qualities by providing powerful tools of thought using models as well as historical and contemporary examples.

Courses offered by Faculty of Education and Social Sciences, Umtech at Sidma College Sarawak are Foundation in Management, Diploma in Early Childhood Education, Bachelor of Education (Hons) and Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood Education) (Hons). The variety of courses offered is geared to expose scholars to great scientists, artists, poets, philosophers, economists, politicians, theologians, educators and statesmen who have shaped and contributed to the modernisation of civilisation.

The Faculty of Business Administration is founded on the vision to pioneer quality education in the areas of business and management. The faculty is committed to building competent human capital and committed to impart knowledge in an interactive and engaging learning environment that produces graduates with confidence, skills, professionalism and integrity. The faculty strives to work very closely with industries through research and consultancy as an integral part of continuous development effort to ensure curriculum and services offered are industry relevant. The collaborations with the industries have provided students with invaluable work experience, which better prepare them to face the real world.

Courses offered by the Faculty of Business Administration, Umtech at Sidma College Sarawak are Diploma in Management, Bachelor of Management (Hons), Bachelor of Business Administration (Hons) and Master in Business Administration (MBA Online).

The Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Management is a leading centre for nurturing students into capable individuals who are ready to contribute to the development of this dynamic industry. The faculty offers an exciting curriculum, combined with the fundamentals in business that places strong emphasis in the fields of service innovation, service technology and in social responsibility. Students will be equipped with the required knowledge through a challenging coursework that involves field experiences. At the same time, they will acquire the skills of creative thinking in line with the hospitality organisations, the business systems and processes and strategies via learning modes such as problem-based learning, business plans preparation and organising events.

At the moment, Sidma College Sarawak offers only one programme through the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Management which is Bachelor of Hospitality Management majoring in Tourism. The other diploma and bachelor’s degree programme under this faculty are offered at the main campus in Petaling Jaya.
