KOTA KINABALU: A self-employed local was charged at the Sessions Court here yesterday with raping a 15-year-old girl last year.

Willa Joking @ Juking, 44, from Kampung Tamoi, Membakut is accused of raping the minor at a rented room of an unnumbered house in Kampung Matunggung Limadang, Membakut about 5.30pm in Oct 2011.

He is liable to a jail term of up to 20 years and whipping if found guilty of the alleged offence under Section 375 (g) of the Penal Code punishable under Section 376 (1) of the same code.

High Court deputy registrar Zulkifli Abllah, who sat as a Sessions Court judge, set tomorrow, Jan 12, to take the accused’s plea.

Earlier during the proceedings, the accused was not sure about his plea prompting the court to set the date to give ample time to him to decide on his plea.

The court then ordered the accused, who was unrepresented, to be remanded further under Section 259 of the Criminal Procedure Code pending the date.

Prosecuting officer ASP Sabrina Jinius prosecuted the case.
