MIRI: Enrolment is still open for three of the four courses offered in the January 2012 intake by the Sarawak Skills Development Centre (PPKS), Miri.

According to its students’ affairs officer Dillah Tuah, a total of 55 vacant places are currently available for Graphic Design (20), Industrial Electronic (15) and Plantation (20).

Registration for Plantation will be held from 8.30am to 5pm on Jan 13 at the PPKS SAVTI in Kebuluh, Bekenu, while Graphic Design and Industrial Electronic registration is on Jan 16 at PPKS Lutong.

Registration for Mechatronic is already closed, which has 25 students.

Dillah urged interested youths to enroll as soon as possible, adding that seats are limited and recruitment is on a first come, first served basis.

Those coming for the registration should bring copies of their identity cards (MyKad), and other supporting documents such as school leaving certificate, SPM/SPMV/STPM certificate and RM120 for registration fee.

For more information on the courses and short courses offered, log on to PPKS website at www.ppks.edu.my or visit the main campus at PPKS, Block 1, MCLD, Jalan Shell, Lutong, Miri Sarawak or call Dillah or Zafirah Bujang (SKM) or Esra (Short Courses) at 085-622184.

Dillah reiterated that the courses are certified by the Department of Skills Development or JPK under
the Ministry of Human Resources.

“Upon completion of the one and a-half to two years’ courses, students are expected to be efficient in their relevant skills as a preparation to meet the demands of the labour market,” he said.

Students enrolling for the programme also stand to enjoy 10 per cent discount, provided their tuition fees are paid in full on or before Jan 13.

“Short courses can also benefit those who are self-employed. Apart from the career advantages short courses can offer, they may offer new ideas and skills that can really fire up the mind and inspire greater business success,” said Dillah.
