Kedah Sultan calls for continuous effort to help the poor

ALOR SETAR: The Sultan of Kedah, Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah, wants the state government to continue channelling assistance to the poor.

In his speech in conjunction with his 84th birthday yesterday, he said, various forms of assistance can be extended to this group in collaboration with the Welfare Department, Tithe Department and corporate companies.

His text of speech was read out by chairman of the Sultan of Kedah Council of Regency, Tunku Annuar Sultan Badlishah.

“I am made to understand that there are 17,000 poor families up until Oct 31 last year. My government will continue to help the poor and the less fortunate,” he said.

He also hoped for a continuous improvement in the people’s standard of living and for them to live in harmony and in a safe environment. He also noted that the state’s economy was vibrant, providing job and business opportunities to the people.

“Manufacturing activities are expanding and attracting foreign investors including at the Kulim Hi-Tech Park as well as in Sungai Petani, Kuala Ketil, Gurun, Yan and Bukit Kayu Hitam,” he said.

Tuanku Abdul Halim also stressed on the importance of having an efficient administration in making sure all the policies are implemented effectively.

“Be steadfast in upholding the trust given to you as this is the essence of leadership with integrity,” he said. — Bernama
