MIRI: Malaysians need to continue working closely with the government so as to enable the country to achieve its vision of becoming a high income, industrialised and developed nation status by 2020.

Minister for Energy, Green Technology and Water, Datuk Seri Peter Chin said they should not allow themselves to be easily influenced by any group who are out to champion their own personal agenda.

“The rakyat needs to work closely and continuously with the government to ensure healthy economic growth,” said Chin in his Chinese New Year message which was recorded at the Radio Television Malaysia (RTM Miri) yesterday.

Among those present was the head of the Chinese Service of RTM Miri, Wee Geok Boi.

Chin stressed that continued strong support of the people and the pragmatic administration had proven to enable Malaysia to weather the global economic crisis. This, he said is in contrast with what happened in many countries including in Europe which is experiencing an economic downturn.

“Our numerous pragmatic strategies that lead to effective administration and financial management, such as the NEM (New Econonic Model), ETP (Economic Transformation Programme) and Political Transformation had helped the country to progress.

“Consequently, Malaysia is able to achieve its GDP (Gross Domestic Product) of 5.4 percent this year,” Chin said.

The Chinese New Year message recorded by RTM Miri will be broadcast by the Chinese Service of RTM on the first day of the Chinese New year.
