SEEKING A SOLUTION: Councillor Liaw Ho Peng (seventh left) and SUPP Lawas members meet with PWD engineer Norman Jan (fifth left) to find answers on the water supply issue.

LAWAS: SUPP branch here wants the Public Works Department to help ensure a steady supply of water for the coming Chinese New Year festive season, which otherwise would cause great inconveniences to the Chinese community.

Branch chairman Cr Liaw Ho Peng said this in a meeting with district engineer Norman Jan at PWD office here yesterday. Accompanying him were Youth chief Patrick Ting Kee Leong and other office bearers.

He said the Chinese community is unhappy with the erratic water supply recently and extremely worried that this could affect their New Year preparation and celebration.

Norman said PWD Lawas had tried its best to mitigate the problem caused by supply capacity overtaken by the surging demand in the area and the delays in completion of the Trusan Water Treatment Plant project that could resolve the shortage woes.

SUPP Lawas also slammed the opposition and condemned irresponsible quarters for their vested interest, which had caused the delay in the treatment plant project causing hardship to the people of Lawas district.

PWD Lawas has tried to expand existing treatment plant capacity to cope with the rising demand.
