Henry Lau plays host to CM and entourage

SIBU: It was a colourful and joyous occasion when Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud attended a dinner at the residence of KTS Group managing director Dato Henry Lau on Wednesday.

The event was held in conjunction with the Chinese New Year celebration.

Taib arrived at the house in Abang Haji Openg Road with his wife Puan Sri Ragad Kurdi Taib at about 8.15pm.

They were met by Henry and his wife Datin Wendy Lau, his mother Datin Sri Wong Suk Ting, his brother Temenggong Vincent Lau, Henry’s in-laws, Deputy Minister of Information, Communication and Culture Datuk Joseph Salang and other family members.

Among the guests at the dinner were Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Alfred Jabu and his wife Dato Sri Empiang Jabu, Second Finance Minister and Minister of Local Government and Community Development Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh and his wife Datin Sri Pauline Leong, Minister of Social Development Tan Sri William Mawan Ikom and his wife Puan Sri Julia Mawan, Second Minister of Planning and Resource Management Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan and his wife Datuk Dayang Morliah Awang Daud, Minister of Welfare, Women and Family Development Datuk Fatimah Abdullah and her husband Datu Dr Adi Badiozaman Tuah.

Also present were Assistant Minister of Public Health Dr Jerip Susil, Nangka assemblyman Dr Annuar Rapa’ee, Temenggong Datuk Wan Hamid Edruce, Taib’s brother Datuk Mohd Tufail Mahmud and his wife Datin Suhing Bujang and Kapitan Datuk Janet Lau, who is the widow of the late deputy transport minister Datuk Robert Lau Hoi Chew.

The dinner finished at about 10pm.

Earlier, Taib and his wife went on their round of Chinese New Year visits to political leaders and prominent corporate figures here.

They included Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh, RH Group chairman Tan Sri Tiong Hiew King, Hock Peng Organisation managing director Datuk Toh Chiew Hock and Sibu United Chinese Association president Datuk Lau Nai Hoh.
