Juvenile who caused police pensioner’s death sent to reform school

KOTA KINABALU: The Sessions Court here ordered a 17-year-old boy to be sent to the Henry Gurney school for causing the death of a police pensioner, two years ago.

Judge Duncan Sikodol ordered the juvenile, who was not represented, to be placed at the reform school until attaining the age of 21, after he pleaded guilty to causing the death of the 68-year-old pensioner behind a shop in Menggatal on March 29, 2010.

The boy who was 15 years old when he committed the offence with an accomplice who is still at large, was convicted under Section 304 of the Penal Code which provides for a maximum jail of 30 years and a fine, upon convction.

In a separate case, the fate of three Filipinos will be determined on Feb 28 this year, after they pleaded guilty to their charges of consuming syabu.

Magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus deferred sentencing at the request of the prosecuting officer Chief Inspector Ismail Mohd Razali as their urine analysis reports were not on hand.

Azhar Binian, Hasan Abdul and Abdul Rahman Matajam were accused of consuming the drug in Menggatal, Petagas and Kepayan respectively, between Jan 19 and 23.

The court ordered all the accused to be further held in custody pending the disposal of their cases.
