Analyst only advocating armchair politics — Nansian

BAU: Tasik Biru assemblyman Datuk Peter Nansian Ngusie has labelled as ‘armchair politics’ the recent remark made by a local political analyst that the formation of the Barisan Nasional (BN) Supporters Club would create more problems for the ruling coalition.

Nansian, a proponent of the club, said grassroots supporters were the ones who would know better the pros and cons of the proposed club.

Unworried by the comment uttered by Unimas senior lecturer Dr Jeniri Amir, the Assistant Minister of Community Services said: “This professor who criticises the formation … he is not really in politics.

“His analysis, in this instance, can be regarded as armchair politics or stool pigeons. I think the community leaders know the situation better.”

Nansian said this yesterday when met at a dialogue session at his service centre which saw more than 30 community leaders inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to pledge their support for the proposed club. Mas Gading MP Datuk Dr Tiki Lafe was also present at the gathering.

Along with assemblypersons Datuk Sylvester Entrie Muran (Marudi), Rosey Yunus (Bekenu) and Paulus Palu Gumbang (Batu Danau), the proposed club would be used as their new vehicle to pursue their political struggles under the BN banner.

In a recent media report, Jeniri said approving the BN Supporters Club’s formation would amount to going against the BN’s principle of consensus building.

He said plans by the five former SPDP elected representatives, who were sacked by the party recently for insubordination, to pursue their political interests through such a club would set a precedent that no party president would support.
