KUCHING: The Chinese community is urged to unite and step forward to contribute towards the development of Chinese education for the well being of all.

Deputy Works Minister Datuk Yong Khoon Seng said Chinese education is the root of the Chinese community, thus urging headmasters and teachers not to let their guard down but continue to provide quality education for all students regardless of race and religion.

“It is hard work and the contributions from past and present leaders of the school board of management, headmasters and teachers as well as the support from the private sector and community at large have led the school to today’s achievements,” said Yong at the SJK (C) Chung Hua Beliong Alumni Association’s Chinese New Year Dinner and 2nd Anniversary.

Yong, who is Stampin MP, said since its establishment the school had done a tremendous job in nurturing quality human capital, which has contributed to the development of the nation.

However, with the migration of the younger generation to urban areas to work and study, the population in Beliong has reduced over the years.

This also affected the number of students studying in the school.

Nevertheless, more former students of the school are urged to join the association to support the school to ensure its survival. This will ensure the school and students’ well being, which will bring about greater achievements, he said.

The association currently has 60 registered members.

At the event, Yong also announced a RM5,000 grant for the association.

Also present were the association chairman Tho Nyuk Syn and the school headmaster Liew Kok Hui.
