KOTA KINABALU: The Consumer Claims Tribunal (TTPM) president Datuk Lawrence S H Thien ordered a computer service company to provide multiple repairs for a malfunction laptop during a hearing here yesterday.

Claimant Mahya Abd Hamid said his laptop was corrupted when he brought it back from Highpoint Service Network, which he claimed to be completely unusable.

In addition, he said the respondent refused to repair LCD screen even though the laptop is under warranty till August this year. The reason was that water marks was detected on his screen, deeming the warranty void.

“My complaints are a fine line on the screen, keyboard and hard disk problems.

“When I brought the computer home, it was corrupted; I couldn’t even operate Windows,” he said.

Meanwhile, an engineer from Highpoint Service Network said the company was willing to repair the keyboard, CD-Rom, and motherboard, which were under warranty. However, due to the water marks, the LCD screen is no longer under warranty.

The repair cost of the LCD screen is RM750 including labour fee.
