KUALA LUMPUR: The Human Resources Ministry will reorganise the Malaysian Skills Certificate (SKM) accreditation system to empower its graduates with industry requirements and job standards.

Its minister, Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam said, the reorganisation was a ministry’s agenda which would be discussed with Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

“We are an agency responsible for the implementation of the agenda, so we will ensure the discussion goes well and the reorganisation takes place soon,” he told reporters after attending a programme with providers of public and private training, here yesterday.

He said enhancement of the SKM course is carried out because a majority of graduates finished their studies after reaching Level 1 of the SKM, which only takes six months to complete.

“When the new system is implemented, graduates will be obligated to undergo a two-year course to complete Level 1, 2 and 3 of the SKM.

“They will then be eligible to go for Level 4 and 5 which will then qualify them to pursue a university diploma or degree,” he said. — Bernama
