SHAH ALAM: A chemistry expert told the High Court here yesterday that DNA profiles found on a cricket bat and three zinc sheets seized during the investigation of the murders of cosmetic millionaire Datuk Sosilawati Lawiya and three others, belonged to three of the victims.
Chemistry Department’s forensic division director, Lim Kong Boon, the 86th prosecution witness, said Noorhisham Mohamad’s DNA profile was developed from the bloodstains on the cricket bat.
He said the DNA profile was identified by comparing the bloodstains on the cricket bat with the blood specimen belonging to Noorhisham’s mother, Satinah Mokhtar.
“The donor of the blood specimen labelled ‘Satinah Hj Mokhtar’ is the biological mother of the source of the DNA identified from the bloodstains on the cricket bat.
“In addition, the source of the DNA identified from the bloodstains on the cricket bat and the donor of the blood specimen labelled ‘Suzana Bt Radin Pangat’ (Noorhisham’s wife) are the biological father and mother respectively of the donors of blood specimens labelled ‘Muhammad Azri Shahzan Bin Noor Hisham’, ‘Nur Aneesa Salbiah Binti Noorhisham’ and ‘Muhammad Faiz Ridzmi Bin Noorhisham’,” he said during examination-in-chief by deputy public prosecutor Idham Abdul Ghani.
Lim was testifying on the 62nd day of the trial of former lawyer N.Pathmanabhan and three farm workers T Thilaiyalagan, R Matan and R Khatavarayan who are charged with the murders of Sosilawati, 47, bank officer Noorhisham, 38, lawyer Ahmad Kamil Abdul Karim, 32 and Sosilawati’s driver Kamaruddin Shamsuddin, 44.
Pathmanabhan, 42; Thilaiyalagan, 20; Matan, 21; and Kathavarayan, 31, who allegedly committed the offences at Lot 2001, Jalan Tanjong Layang, Tanjung Sepat in Banting between 8.30pm and 9.45pm on Aug 30 last year, face the mandatory death sentence upon conviction under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
The witness said the probability that the source of the DNA identified from the bloodstains on the cricket bat was the biological son of Satinah as well as the biological father of Muhammad Azri Shahzan, Nur Aneesa Salbiah and Muhammad Faiz Ridzmi was more than 99.9999 per cent as calculated based on the Malaysian Malay population database.
Furthermore, Lim said, Kamaruddin’s DNA profile was developed from the bloodstains on a zinc sheet based on the comparison made with the blood specimen belonging to Kamaruddin’s mother, Zainab Ahmad.
“The donor of the blood specimen labelled ‘Zainab Bt Ahmad’ is consistent with being the biological mother of the source of the DNA identified from the bloodstains on the zinc sheet.
“In addition, the source of the DNA identified from the bloodstains on the zinc sheet and the donor of the blood specimen labelled ‘Noor Fazilah Ab Sani’(Kamaruddin’s ex-wife) are consistent with being the biological father and mother respectively of the donors of blood specimens labelled ‘Balqis Dayana Kamaruddin’ and ‘Izran Akmal Kamaruddin’,” he said.
Lim said that the probability that the source of the DNA identified from the bloodstains on the zinc sheet was the biological son of Zainab as well as the biological father of Balqis Dayana and Izran Akmal was 99.8525 per cent as calculated based on the Malaysian Malay population database.
The witness testified that Ahmad Kamil’s DNA profile was developed from the bloodstains and tissue on two zinc sheets after he compared them with blood specimens belonging to Ahmad Kamil’s parents, Bibi Habibon and Abdul Karim Isa.
“The donors of blood specimens labelled ‘Bibi Binti Habibon’ and ‘Abdul Karim Bin Isa’ are the biological mother and father respectively of the source of DNA identified from the bloodstains and tissue on the zinc sheets.
“The probability that the source of the DNA identified from the bloodstains and tissue on the zinc sheets is the biological son of the donors of blood specimens labelled ‘Bibi Binti Habibon’ and ‘Abdul Karim Isa’ is more than 99.9999 per cent as calculated based on the Malaysian Malay population database,” he said.
Lim further testified that Sosilawati’s DNA profile was developed from two toothpicks which were also seized during the investigation after comparing it with the blood specimen belonging to Sosilawati’s mother, Yatmi Abdul Rahman.
However, he said that no DNA profile was developed from the bloodstains on a cushion cover and cushion portion seized during the investigation, and he found the bloodstains to be of animal origin.
“There was also no conclusive DNA result obtained from the bone samples as they are too severely burnt and no bloodstains were detected on all 58 soil samples given to me to be analysed,” he said.
