JELEBU: Opposition de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has triggered the self-destructive button with his remarks on the security of Israel as people have started doubting his credibility as a leader.

Information Communications and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim said Anwar’s statement in an interview with the Wall Street Journal

recently, that he would protect the security of Israel, had also hurt the feelings of the entire nation and leaders of the Islamic world.

“I believe the country and the people of the Islamic world are not ‘stupid’ to accept (Datuk Seri) Anwar Ibrahim just because he was to uphold Israel.

“His statement had also hurt the feelings of the people here and Muslim countries

throughout the world,” he told reporters after handing out Bantuan Rakyat 1Malaysia aid to Kampung Lakai recipients in the Jelebu Parliamentary constituency here yesterday.

Describing Anwar as a hypocrite whose ideals cannot be accepted or trusted, Rais said Anwar cannot be accepted as a leader with quality because he does not possess the basic qualities needed to become a leader.

He said the people and leaders of Muslim countries would now know who the real Anwar is, and the Opposition leader must stop his deception of the ‘rakyat’.

Commenting of a survey report by Edelman Malaysia, Edelman Trust Barometer 2012 yesterday, which stated that the trust of the people on the government of the day was 52 per cent, Rais said everyone was entitled to their own opinion.

However, the survey carried out by the world renown public relations company in the world, may not necessarily be conclusive compared with the actual happenings in the community

“Those who carry out such surveys are “armchair evaluators” who do not go out and reach out to the people.

“But we (leaders) go out every day, officers from the Information Department, Department of Special Affairs (JASA), are always with the people and know the actual situation. I standby their data that the peoples’ support has increased,” he said.

Rais later distributed BR1M assistance to 240 recipients from Kampung Lakai and surrounding areas which largely comprise the Orang Asli community. — Bernama
