SIBU: Some recipients of BR1M (1Malaysia People’s Aid) are said to be harbouring the hope that the government assistance is not a one-off thing.
Aminah Ros from Kampung Bahagia Jaya, Teku said the money she received was a huge relief for her as a single mother.
She said she would use the money to pay for her four children’s education expenses.
The widow was grateful for the government assistance and said many financially-disadvantaged families had indeed benefitted from it, despite some people having a negative perception of the aid.
Aminah, 56, said she hoped the same form of assistance would be given in the near future.
She said the current aid had come very timely.
“School had just re-opened, and families that have school-going children have pressing need for cash,” she said and her view was shared by another single mother, Suzana Subeng, who has two schooling children
Suzana, 31, said she would use part of the money to buy books, stationery, shoes and school uniform for her children.
The remainder, if any, would be for her children’s savings, she said.
