KUCHING: With the rising popularity of smartphones and tablets among consumers, there is a need for mobile operators to change to meet the new challenges it brings.

“The usage of data has become more important and thus expectations from customers have also changed,” said
Celcom chief sales & commercial officer Eric Chong at the Celcom Yee Sang Dinner 2012 on Wednesday.

“Because of this, Celcom will be undergoing a major transformation this year to cater to the needs of our consumers,” he added.

Chong also revealed that Celcom has retained its position as the number one telecommunication in Sarawak, achieving more than a hundred per cent of its targets last year.

“However, this does not mean that we are going to rest on our laurels as there is a saying that says it is hard to be number one but it is harder still to maintain the number one position.

“This year, we expect to see radical changes with radical results by changing the way we do business, to create more hype and to approach our customers in a different angle and new way,” he said.

Anticipating 2012 to be the year of smartphones and tablets, Chong pointed out that Celcom would also be introducing more plans to cater to this demand.

The grand dinner also featured performances by Nanyang Wushu Federation of Sarawak as well as an award presentation to Celcom exclusive partners and key dealers in the state.

Also present was Celcom regional sales director (East Malaysia) Choo Meng Chung.
