BINTULU:  Legal Year opens with parade and pledge. The opening ceremony of the Sabah and Sarawak Legal Year 2012 with the theme ‘Fear And Justice Without Prejudice’ went on smoothly with the parade beginning around 8.30am from Wisma Residen Bintulu to the Bintulu Court yesterday.

The parade saw the participation of the Chief Justice Tan Sri Arifin Zakaria; Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak Tan Sri Richard Malanjum; Federal Court judge Tan Sri Hamid Embong; Attorney General Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail; Sarawak Advocates Association president Mohamad Azmi Khairil Hasbie; President of Sabah Law Association GBB Nand @ Ganesh; Sabah Attorney General Datuk Roderic Fernandez and Sarawak Legal Counsel Saferi Ali.

The Judicial Commissioners, judges of the High Court of Sabah and Sarawak, lawyers, judicial officers and law courts of Sabah and Sarawak joined in the march.

Altogether around 200 people including judicial officers and lawyers participated. The march was accompanied by a brass band from SM Kai Dee Rally.

The opening of Sabah and Sarawak Legal Year 2012 was organised by the Courts of Sabah and Sarawak with Sarawak Advocates Association of Cooperation, the Sabah Law Association, Department of Justice and the Bintulu AAS Bintulu Branch.

The ceremony began with a photo session before the parade and at Bintulu Court, participants sang the national anthem and state anthems of both Sabah and Sarawak.

Around 9.30am, participants followed the event proceedings at the Open Court.

This event was held to signify the opening of the new legislative calendar for Sabah and Sarawak.
