Two security personnel cheat death in van crash

MIRI: Two security personnel cheated death after a security van that they were travelling in swerved into an opposite lane and hit a tree by the roadside at Edward Jeli Road.

The driver, in his 50s, suffered leg and body injuries due to the impact.

Firemen from Miri Fire Station rushed to the scene after being informed of the accident by members of the public.

They took a few minutes to extricate the driver from the driver’s seat.

Meanwhile, the passenger, identified as Labang Panjing, 62, sustained bodily injuries.

In the 2.30pm incident, the security van was heading to the town area from Piasau before going out of control and veering into the opposite lane.

Luckily, the van managed to avoid a head-on collision with vehicles from the opposite direction.

The actual cause of the accident has yet to be determined.

Both the injured persons were sent to Miri Hospital for treatment.
