DEAD FROM INJURIES: Villagers watch as Azrul’s body is being removed from his house.

ASAJAYA: A youth from Kampung Asajaya Ulu died from head injuries he sustained during a fight at a bridge not far from his house here yesterday morning.

Azrul Aban, 23, was found dead in his bedroom around 6.30am by his father, several hours after the alleged fight occurred.

Samarahan district police chief DSP Abdul Rahman Ahmad said the incident occurred shortly past midnight when Azrul and his friends were having a drinking session at the DID Canal bridge along Jalan SMK Asajaya Ulu, about two kilometres from Azrul’s house.

“Based on our initial investigation, a fight broke out which resulted in the victim being struck on the head with a blunt object,” disclosed Abdul
Rahman.

The victim arrived back at his house around 2.30am and was subsequently sent to a local clinic by his family members after they became aware of his condition.

He was said to have received medical treatment for the wounds on his head before making his  way back home to sleep.

According to Abdul Rahman, police had  detained several local    youths, believed to be Azrul’s friends, to facilitate investigation into the case which has been classified as murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

A forensics team was also present to gather evidence from the scene of the crime.

Meanwhile, the victim’s parents, who accompanied the body to the Sarawak General Hospital for a post mortem, said Azrul was an odd-job worker and was the eldest among eight children.

They, however, claimed that they had been told their late son was not involved in a fight, but had actually been attacked, along with his friends, by another group of men from another village over unknown reasons.
