Co-curriculum condition for university entrance

TEMERLOH: Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia and Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia students are reminded to be active in co-curriculum activities, which forms an additional condition to furthering their tertiary education in any university in the country.

Higher Education Deputy Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah said there were students who could not get into their chosen fields due to the lack of involvement in such activities while in school.

He said gaining university entry was not difficult. Students only needed to perform well academically plus a 10 per cent achievement in co-curriculum.

“The main reason for this emphasis is that these activities contributed towards instilling resilience, self-reliance and responsibility.

“We have 20 public and 80 private universities where each student has the opportunity to apply for a course of their choice and the lack ofinvolvement in co-curriculum activities must not become an obstacle,” he emphasised. — Bernama
