Penang mufti recipient of Anugerah Perdana Maulidur Rasul

PUTRAJAYA: Penang mufti Sahibus Samahah Datuk Seri Hassan Ahmad was yesterday   named the recipient of the national-level Anugerah Perdana Maulidur Rasul 1433H/2012.

Hassan, 70, who is a member of the National Fatwa Council, received the award from the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Tuanku Abdul Halim Mua’dzam Shah, at the Maulidur Rasul celebration at Putra Mosque, here.

Hassan, who is from Seberang Perai, Penang, received RM50,000, a trophy and a certificate, among other things.

Met by reporters, Hassan said Muslims should internalise Islamic teachings in a holistic way and not limited to certain aspects only.

“Muslims should internalise Islam in all aspects including economy, family matters and so on,” he said.

Other recipients are member of Federal Territory Islamic Religious Council who is the National- and International-level Quran Reciters’ Assembly Main Organising Committee member Toh Puan Wan Asiah Ahmad, former Kelantan Education Department’s head of Islamic Education Section Abdul Razak Mat Saat, and Malaysian Chinese Muslims Association deputy president Dr Muhammad Fuad Yeoh.

They also include Saba Islamic Media Sdn Bhd’s dakwah ambassador Shah Kirit Kakulal Govindji, former National- and International-level Quran recital winner Datuk Rogayah Sulong, former Pahang Survey and Mapping director Abdul Majid Abdul Hamid, Kampung Bukit Kala Orang Asli chief Hussein Ngahyin, and a student of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Sungai Tiang in Kedah who obtained 9As in last year’s Penilaian Menengah Rendah, Muhammad Hadi
Darus.

They each received RM20,000, a trophy and a certificate, among other things.

Muhammad Hadi, a student with disabilities, said the award would spur him to work hard to achieve his dream of becoming a lecturer.

Muhammad Hadi, 16, who was born without hands, uses his legs to write, and a wheelchair to move about.

“My advice to others who have disabilities is, don’t be disheartened by it. It’s for us to strengthen our resolve because Allah will give us a chance to excel,” he said.

Meanwhile, Shah Kirit said the award would spur him further in performing his duties.

“It’s not just about becoming a bridge among Muslims but also to reach out to people of other faiths so that there will be understanding and unity, and we can correct any misconceptions about Islam,” he said. — Bernama
