Rope in retired Tamil school teachers — Palanivel

Posted on February 6, 2012, Monday

KUALA LANGAT: MIC president Datuk Seri G Palanivel has suggested that retired Tamil school teachers are employed
on a contract basis to teach Tamil literature in secondary schools.

He said this was necessary to overcome the current shortage of teachers for the subject in Form 4 and Form 5.

“It has been noted that Form 4 and Form 5 Indian students are currently facing shortage of Tamil literature teachers. As such, retired Tamil school teachers who taught Tamil literature before could be reemployed temporarily or on a contract basis to overcome the shortage.

“I’ll raise the matter with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and Education Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin in the near future,” he told reporters after attending the consecration ceremony of a Hindu temple at an estate near here, yesterday.

On another matter, Palanivel, who is Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department said MIC must be fully prepared to face next general election.

He said the party could not just rely on loyal supporters or members alone to win big in the election but needed to rope in youngsters and educated professionals into its fold.

Palanivel also said that he would announce the names of eligible candidates for the election when the time comes. — Bernama
