KUCHING: Sarawak Women Hockey Association(SWHA) coach Sivasubramaniam Chellappah was full of praise for the Sukma and 1Malaysia players who competed in the Girls U-18 and U-15 MSSM Sarawak Hockey Championship at Sarawak Hockey Stadium last Saturday.
They are Sukma players 16 year-old Wilina Mac Carina, Christin Ela Ahon and Cammielia Miechthiel, while Jesicali Saberi and Sharulina Entering are trainees of 1Malaysia hockey development programme.
“They have good basic skills of hockey and have the potential to progress into the national team if they continue to train in the Sukma squad or under 1Malaysia hockey development programme,” he told The Borneo Post after the Girls U-18 final between SMK Penrissen and SMK Bau.
Sivasubramaniam revealed that some talented players could not be in the squad or dropped out of the 1Malaysia hockey development programme because of exam (SPM) commitment and others gave up because of either financial or family problems.
“One of them is Feona Sharon Paul of SMK Penrissen who played the role of attacking defender in Girls U-18 final. She possesses excellent basic skills but could not make it into the Sukma squad because she wants to concentrate on her SPM exam this year,” he added.
