KUCHING: Award-winning low cost airline for three consecutive years, AirAsia Bhd (AirAsia) has recently enhanced its Malaysia-Indonesia link as the inaugural daily flights from Kuala Lumpur to Semarang commenced yesterday.
According to a press statement, “The service links the two cities on an exclusive route which currently no other airline serves. AirAsia offers daily direct flights from the Low Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT) in Kuala Lumpur to Achmad Yani International Airport in Semarang.”
Upon the new destination’s initial sale from Decembr 12 to 18, 2011, the low cost carrier had received approximately 5,000 flight bookings. AirAsia believed that the good response illustrated that the demand for the route was present and was ready to develop it further should there be a hike in demand.
In conjunction with the inaugural flight, AirAsia would be offering special promotions for the Kuala Lumpur – Semarang route with all-in-fares from RM109 per way.
The booking period for this promotion would be now until February 12, 2012 for the travel period of February 8 to April 30 this year.
This new route would mark AirAsia’s 14th Indonesian destination from Kuala Lumpur. Semarang is the capital of Central Java province, well-known as a busy administrative and business-centric town, which AirAsia described as ‘booming’ with many business centres, offices and industrial estates.
“As various prominent companies have established businesses and facilities in Semarang, an important hub for many industries, the recent connectivity that AirAsia has afforded will present business travellers from Malaysia with the prospect to explore commerce opportunities in Semarang and vice versa,” the press statement noted.
AirAsia regional head of commercial, Kathleen Tan said, “We see the latest destination, Kuala Lumpur – Semarang, as a mark of our confidence in expanding our network in Asean and the newest effort to help stimulate economic growth in the region.”
“We hope that our low fares will help both established and aspiring businesses to explore more trade opportunities and boost business partnerships, which in turn will elevate the economy of both countries,” Tan enthused.
Besides being a booming business hub, there are numerous tourism attractions in Semarang, to entice holiday-goers keen for a unique experience. Among its wide range of offerings are museums, temples, churches, Karimunjawa Island; a national marine park consisting of many small islands and many local delicacies.
This new route would solidify AirAsia’s aim to establish itself as a ‘Truly Asean’ airline with its unmatched connectivity in the region.
