SANTUBONG: Civil servants in the state were told to take the government transformation programme seriously to ensure its goals were achieved.

The call came from Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud who believed the positive attitude of civil servants was essential for the state to have a better future.

“We must take change as a blessing as well as challenge. Our job is to make this transformation practical and its adaptation successful,” he said this during the High Performance Team Retreat 2012 in Damai recently.

He added that civil servants must be adaptable to cope with the needs of current situations, be practical in their solutions, and be dedicated to their commitments.

“As civil servants, we need to keep abreast of knowledge without getting involved in contentious issues. We must get ideas from a cross pollination of groups. The independence of the civil service must be protected at all times,” he said.

The retreat participated by 140 heads of state agencies aimed to develop team synergy among heads of departments. It was a platform for them to deliberate on major issues, and promote cross-agency teams to create innovative and creative ways to provide excellent service delivery to the people.

Also present were State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Morshidi Abdul Ghani, State Attorney-General Datu Abdul Razak Tready and State Public Service Commission chairman Datu Abdul Ghafur Shariff.
