KUCHING: The Sarawak Association of Private Institutions of Higher Education (Perintis) together with the Bumiputera Trust Fund (Tegas) will hold a Technical and Vocational Education exhibition at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) on Feb 28.
The exhibition organising chairman who is also the president of Perintis, Baharudin Abdullah said the exhibition is to help promote technical skills training and raise public awareness.
He said there would be 40 exhibition booths with 37 Perintis members including Inti College, Curtin University and Swinburne University participating.
The one-day exhibition from 8am until 5pm will include several skills demonstrations like hairdressing.
“Tegas, a new state government funded foundation formed under the Chief Minister’s Office (Promotion of Technical Education) with a RM500 million funding is working with Perintis to support activities and programmes to promote technical education,” said Baharudin at a press conference here yesterday.
He said the exhibition is free and is open to everyone especially students and parents. They will also be providing transport from Kuching Waterfront to BCCK on that day.
He said they would apply for state government funds to hold such event in other big towns in Sarawak to promote technical skills training to all Sarawakians.
“It is very important for youngsters to equip themselves with certain skill to help them get a job and earn a better living,” he said.
Baharudin is expecting 5,000 visitors to the exhibition.
About 1,000 would be students from schools in Kuching as well as about 10 persons from each constituency in the state led by their respective ministers.
“This is a state function and Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud has been invited to launch the exhibition in conjunction with the launching of Tegas,” said Baharudin.
