State duo aim hitting bull’s-eye at inter-school meet

KUCHING: State archers Karina Ignasia Norman and Mohd Haziq Shah Zayni are going to make other competitors a run for their money in the MSSS Under-15 Inter-School Archery Tournament 2012, at SMK Tabuan here, starting from Feb 14 to 17.

Both 14 Karina and Mohd Hazig, from SMK Tun Abdul Razak had won medals at the national level competition.

Karina struck 293 and 263 points to win silver and bronze medals respectively.

While Mohd Haziq scored 271 points to bag silver at the National Sports Carnival in Kuantan Pahang in October last year.

They competed against 95 others in the 30, 40, 50 metres events.

Sarawak Archery technical chairman Jamil Talip and who is also their coach was impressed with the performance shown by the school’s competitors.

“The performance shown by the boys and girls contestants were very impressive, they had shown their courage and confident in shooting at their targets.

This is very good outcome, and from the result we could select archers to compete in Majlis Sukan Sekolah Sarawak (MSSS) for the U-15 category,” he said when met during a training session at SMK Tun Abdul Razak yesterday.

A total of seven events will be competed at the four-day MSSS competition.

The events were Boys U-12, Girls U-15, Boys U-14, Girls U-16, Boys U-16 Recurve Open and Compound Open.
