MIRI: Entries are now open for the 14th Edition of the Sarawak International Triathlon 2012 scheduled on Oct 6-7 at the Brighton Beach Miri, Tanjung Lobang.
Its organising Secretary, Awang Hashim Awang Bujang informed The Borneo Post that the event is open to all Malaysians and international runners, and offers a total cash prize of RM66,000.
“As in the past years, we are expecting many local and foreign athletes to take part in the event, thus putting Miri on the world Triathlon map.
“There are three main categories — The Sarawak International Triathlon (Modified Race), Relays (Men Relay and Women Relay) and the Junior Dualthlon,” revealed Awang Hashim.
The Sarawak International Triathlon (Modified Race) is opened to male athletes, aged 16 to 29, 30 to 39, 40 to 49 and 50 and above, and women athletes aged 16 to 34 and 35 and above.
“The Sarawak Close (Modified Race) is also opened to male athletes, aged 16 to 29, 30 to 39, 40 to 49 and 50 and above, and women athletes aged 16 to 34 and 35 and above.
The Sarawak International Triathlon (Modified Race) comprise a 2km swimming (Open Sea), a 60km road cycling and a 15km road running while the distance for the Junior Dualthlon consists of 2km beach running, 10km road cycling and 2 km road running,” explained Awang Hashim.

The triathlon is organised jointly by the Sarawak Triathlon Association and the Ministry of Social Development with the sanction of the Malaysian Triathlon Association.
